Best in class! Reviews Sony MDR-V6 Monitor Series Headphones with CCAW Voice Coil

Sound quality is really what makes these guys such a value. I used to own a pair of Koss electrostatic headphones, and while they certainly had their good points, this inexpensive Sony MDR-V6 Monitor Series Headphones with CCAW Voice Coil easily betters the Koss in extended low-frequency response, and bass integration.

I don't hear any sort of peakiness with the Sony MDR-V6 Monitor Series Headphones, and they maintain that smooth response at lower volume levels, which is important to me. The coil is ample length and sturdy, had for nearly a year now and no problems. Great if you care about accurate sound. The sound quality is best of all headphones I've used.
  • Samarium-cobalt magnets and 40mm drivers for powerful, detailed sound
  • Over-ear design provides comfort and outstanding reduction of external noises
  • 10-foot oxygen free copper cord ends in 3.5mm plug; 1/4-inch adapter included
  • Copper-clad aluminum voice coil wire for improved power handling
  • Wide frequency response of 5 Hz - 30 kHz
Because these Sony MDR-V6 Monitor Series headphones surround your ears and are "closed back," they really do diminish outside noise. It's nothing like the Bose active noise-cancelling headphones, though - these ones just turn down the volume on outside noise rather than pulling the plug on it. This is on purpose - many headphone designers feel that active noise cancellation discolors the sound too much.

These Sony MDR-V6 headphones are really detailed, meaning they reproduce high mids and trebles well. You will probably hear things you've never heard before like breaths, guitar fretboard noises, and string instruments. However, this makes you feel like you're right in the middle of everything, and it can get tiring after an hour or two.

You'd be hard pressed to find a better price/performance/comfort balance than the Sony MDR-V6s. Try the HD 201's first for classical or instrumental music (they only cost $20, so trust me, try them!). You don't have to trust me, but if you're shopping for the best sounding headphones under $300.00, the Sony MDR-V6 are the headphones you want.
